Vybz Kartel Banned on Popular NY Radio Station

Dubb Master Chris

Vybz Kartel, whose rapid color change has been at the forefront in recent months was banned from DJ Dubbmaster Chris's lineup for the month of February.  Dubb Master is a part of Irie Jam Radio on 93.5FM in NY.  Chris who claims that he has supported Kartel since the inception of his career, has made an individual decision to not play Vybz Kartel's music during Black History Month because of his bleaching.  Dubb Master said he is very much against bleaching and believe that it goes against the celebration of our heritage.  Dubb Master went on to say "Please understand that I have a lot of love and respect for Kartel's music. I respect his enormous talent and his individuality. He is one of the great lyricists of our time, however, at times I am disappointed in the direction he decides to take his audience even though that is his prerogative". In regards to bleaching he says  "I strongly believe bleaching is wrong, wrong, wrong! It's a disgrace. It's a slap in the face of our heritage, our ancestors and our God. This definitely sends the wrong message to children, I think it leads them to believe that somehow, if they are dark complexion something is wrong with that.It erodes the concept that black is beautiful".  This is  purely personal decision, although Dubb Master encourages other DJ's to follow suit.  This ban will also only apply to the radio.

Although I agree on Dubb Master' stance on bleaching, I believe this is extreme.  If this is the case, there are many artistes who have bleached over the years.  Why is everyone in an uproar now.  Kartel in my opinion is extremely talented.  However, his decision to bleach reflects his own personal issues, that have nothing to do with his music, or talent.  No one chose to ban Michael Jackson despite his image changes over the years.  No one is banning Lil Kim.  Instead of focusing on artistes, we should take the time to educate and uplift our children so that they won't want to emulate artistes, but those that raise them...but then again many of their parents bleach too.  So with that said...I'm out! Smooches :-)
