Kill The Summer Songs????

Summer is over.  WYRAS took a little summer break but we're back! Labor Day has come and gone, and the temperature has dropped. I have even seen Christmas commercials.  SOOOOO with that being said, does that mean that we should retire the summer tunes???  Summer 2011 saw some of the hottest summer anthems we have seen in recent years, starting with Kartel’s Summertime on the riddim of the same name.  We had the battle of the summer anthems with that song; Popcaan’s Ravin’ which isn’t explicitly a summer song, but many would say the song tek di riddim, and possibly the summer.  Then you had Aidonia with Summer Sun, and Mavado who many will say had the song of the summer came hard with Final Destination on Chimney Record’s Summer Fling riddim.

No matter who you credit with having the hottest song of the summer, you have to agree that these songs got the party started, and tun up di vibes anytime and anywhere they were played.  Being that these songs were centered on summertime, and the fun that summer brings, does that mean that we have to retire them until next summer.  I for one say no.  With the exception of Christmas carols, who says that songs can only be played during certain times of the year?   Many of these so called summer anthems came out towards the latter part of the summer and therefore are still hot and still get the party poppin!  I say let them run their course.  Play them until they are no longer hot.  Don’t assume that because we are heading into Fall that people no longer want to hear them.  I guarantee that people will still dance to them when played.  At least wait for our first snow fall before shutting down the summer tunes lol.  Long live the summer of 2011.  Smooches from Hotlipps

The answer to Sammy's question is YES!!! Kill dem... At least in NY!!! Now... I can see why Sammy would want to keep the Summer chunes playing. This past Summer has been the best musical Summer in years... And it was competitive. We heard a million summer songs... But the title holders were undeniable... Kartel who started the race and held it until Popcaan took di riddim and the lead. By the end of the Summer it was Mavado who dominated with his Summer Anthem Final Destination... which just topped off his lead for the year so far. But now its time to BURY the damn Summer Chune dem!!! The good thing about Summer songs is that it finally gave Artists some momentum going into the Fall & maybe we can have a Vibzy Christmas Season... All I know is for the first time in a while I'm actually looking forward to hearing what's coming next. Mavado has a few songs mashing up the charts with Delilah & One by One... & I'm sure that his Songs Settle Down & Do Road will pick up steam & Kartel finally sounds like the Pre-Bleach/Pornstar/Coloring Book Kartel that we all used to rate in the chune Put It on Hard on the Snap Back Riddim. If this continues, we may have some quality music among the barrage of eeedyatt Riddims that are released every other day, 97% of which are a waste of time. Besides all of that... New York too damn cold to hear about beach and all dem ting deh. Summer Songs should only be played where the weather connect with the lyrics... Lef dat to Miami... Deh so mi ting Deh!!! RRRRRRR.
