BIG UP DAVID RODIGAN

SOUND TALK…

Big Up the Gentleman Fr. England, the Great David Rodigan for his win in World Clash R.E.S.E.T. His tune knowledge, selection & patented story telling has triumphed again proving that Sound Clash doesn’t have to be about bad word, badness & loose argument.

Now for the review; So, my prediction for this clash was half right. I knew that Bass Odyssey would be in the Chune fi Chune but I honestly didn’t expect Rodigan to be there with them. To be honest… almost no-one I spoke to, and I had a million convos about W.C., thought Roddy would make it. And the reason was the same across the board… “Roddy a di Boss… but wit dat Line-Up, di Genkleman Ting nah go work in Amazura. It a go get Ruff inna di morning.” Every single person had that same sentiment… which brings me to the other sounds.

Black Kat… I don’t even know why they showed up without Pantha. Of all the Sounds on that Clash, Pantha was the Selecta with the most fans in NY… So for Black Kat to be there without Pantha… it never mek sense. The selectas that were playing didn’t stand a chance… Boos from dem start. Poison Dart… great sound… but it was expected that they would drop out early… Dem jus nuh really have the spice that wow’s a NY crowd. Earth Ruler… Biggest Forward for the Nite… But as we know, One Round can’t win a clash… and this takes us to the Biggest disappointments for the night, Tony Matterhorn & Fire Links. The hype behind World Clash R.E.S.E.T. was practically built on this rivalry, especially with this being Links’ first appearance on a World Clash Stage. Even I expected Links to turn on a fire and give the crowd a great performance as it was my prediction that it would be Links and Bass Odyssey in Chune fi Chune. But it looks like Links left the Fire in Jamaica. It seems as if the lack of warring for all these years coupled with constant regular and jiggy juggling dances that Matterhorn & Links currently live in seems to have dulled the killer instincts in these one time great warriors. Hopefully their best war days are not behind them because it would be great to have them in the arena once again. This leads us to Bass Odyssey… they held the best & most consistent vibes for the night… which was a challenge playing last each round. But it was in Chune fi Chune where they lost it. The Chune fi Chune round went down to the wire and the count was 5-5. Rodigan played one of his classics but it didn’t connect as well as he hoped with the crowd and it looked like it was Bass Odyssey’s dance. And then human error stepped in and it cost Odyssey the win. Damian selected the wrong Garnet Silk chune, thinking it was another and as the chune played the crowd realized it was a playback chune and the victory went to Rodigan.
