THE RETURN OF CULTURE CHUNES

Welcome Chronixx the General...

It has been quite some time since the Dancehall scene has received a culture shock. In times past there would be a steady revolving of the music's different areas... Dancehall, Rockers and Culture. Recently however, over the last 5 or so years, it seemed that Dancehall alone was connecting with the people. Even though some great quality one drop riddim, culture riddims and singles were being produced, it seemed like they couldn't break through the barrier that dancehall put up. Thankfully, nothing can last forever and the end of 2012 and beginning of 2013 brought out a new talent, Chronixx. He's been buzzing since mid last year and his buzz came to its height at Sting 2012 where he performed and was very well received.

Currently signed to Zinc Fence label, Chronixx has a smooth melodic delivery as he sings and chants real rasta man lyrics that remind us of early Sizzla, I Wayne and Warrior King. His fully conscious lyrics are a breath of fresh air to dancehall that has been sounding more and more like hip hop with some of its racey lyrical content. With good boys turning slack, rasta artists either shaving their head or referring to themselves as “ragga-heads” which is used to justify their slack lyrics or one of my favorite anomolies, the “Gangsta Rass” movement.  It’s truly refreshing to hear an artist who isn't going for shock value or  for hype. Chronixx has brought in the resurgence of true culture in Dancehall. Hopefully this opens the door to other artists and brings back the One Drop style of music, which has always served as the balance to dancehall.

“Warrior” and “Behind the Curtain” and his new track “Here Comes Trouble” are just 3 of his growing catalogue of chunes. Chronixx is definitely an artist on the rise and one to watch.
